Snowboarding is a relatively new sport that involves descending a snow-covered slope on a single snowboard. Snow Boarding is similar to skiing, but inspired by surfing and skateboarding.

Since being developed in the United States in the 1960s, snowboarding has become a major winter snow sport and recreational activity. Becoming accepted as a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998.

As a competitive sport, there are six different events in snowboarding (slalom, parallel slalom, giant slalom, super giant slalom, snowboardercross and halfpipe) but only two are currently contested at the Winter Olympics.
