Knucklebones also known as Five Stones or Jacks is a very old childrens playground game. Knucklebones is a one handed game, in which the stones are thrown in the air, while in the air a simple challenge is performed, before catching the bones.
Age
A schoolyard game normally played by children from the age of six or seven years.
Ability
The player then tosses a single stone into the air, attempting to pick up one of the stones from the ground,befor catching the airborn stone. This is repeated until all the stones have been picked up.
Description
To start, the player throws all five stones into the air with one hand and tries to catch as many as possible on the back of the same hand. The stones that are caught are then thrown up again from the back of the hand and as many as possible are caught in the palm of the hand. The player then tosses a single stone into the air, attempting to pick up one of the stones from the ground,befor catching the airborn stone. This is repeated until all the stones have been picked up.
Dedication
Next, the player throws down four of the stones, throws the single stone in to the air, attempts to pick up two stones with the same hand before catching the tossed stone. This is repeated again and a final toss sees the player picking up the last stone. The process is then repeated for three stones followed by one stone and finally, all four stones are picked up before catching the single tossed stone.
The game can continue with simple challenges being performed before catching the stones.
