Juggling is the entertaining, non competitive circus skill of object manipulation. The most recognizable form of juggling being toss juggling, in which the juggler throws and catches a number of objects through the air, repeatably in succession.
Popularity
Juggling has been a popular pastime and entertainment since ancient times. The word juggling derives from the Middle English jogelen to entertain by performing tricks.
Location
Juggling can be performed anywhere space permitting, privately in the home or publicly at festivals, fairs and as a street entertainment. Juggling clubs and workshops can be found in most Towns.
Age
Juggling is very suitable for everyone from the age of eight to eighty. It develops co-ordination of children, and maintains phisical and mental dexterity in the elderly. It is also satisfying and a highly enjoyable pastime for all.
Ability
As exercise, juggling is a highly aerobic activity, increasing the heart rate and respiration. Juggling helps one to develop good hand-eye coordination, physical fitness and balance, it also helps to develop quick reflexes.
Description
In basic toss juggling, items are thrown into the air so that at a given point, some are in the air, going up, some are falling back towards the juggler's hands, some are being caught and some are being thrown. Juggling can be performed by a solo juggler, or in pairs. The number of items juggled can vary normally between 3 and 8 at one time. Items juggled vary , most common are balls, clubs and bean bags. less common and more difficult are, knives, flaming torches, hats and various fruit.
Dedication
As a sport, juggling can be done competitively, with jugglers taking turns to try to best each other's abilities, or juggling together, in teams. This concept really took off in 2004 When the World Juggling Federation competition, was first staged. This is now an annual event that, as of 2006, has been held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
