Snorkeling, is recreational swimming with a face mask, which has a tube attached allowing the swimmer to breath whilst swimming face down in the water. Snorkeling enables the swimmer to observe underwater life in its natural setting.
Popularity
Snorkeling is a popular recreational activity, particularly at tropical resort destinations and many places recreational scuba divers venture. Snorkeling is also employed by scuba divers when near the surface.
Location
Snorkeling is possible in almost any water, but snorkelers are most likely to be found in locations where there are minimal waves, warm water, and something particularly interesting to see near the surface.
Age
There are no age limits to snorkeling, other than those of common sense. As with all forms of diving, it is always recommended that for safety one not snorkel alone, but rather with a buddy or a tour guide.
Ability
Snorkeling requires no special training, only the ability to swim and to breathe through the snorkel. However, it is recommended that one gets some basic Instruction which will cover, equipment usage, basic safety and what to look for when diving.
Description
A snorkeler usually wears flippers (fins on the feet), to aid propulsion through the water. In cooler waters, a wetsuit may also be worn. Combining these two tools allows the snorkeler to observe underwater attractions for extended periods of time with relatively little effort.

The primary attraction of snorkeling is the opportunity to observe underwater life in a natural setting. This may include coral reefs and their residents, such as fish, octopuses, starfish, sea urchins, and mollusks. making for a unique experiance.
