Parkour is an urban physical discipline, in which participants (traceur) attempt to pass all obstacles in their path, in the fastest and most direct manner possible, using acrobatic movements such as vaulting, jumping and climbing.
Popularity
Parkour in its unofficial form has become a popular pastime in heavily populated inner city areas where there is naturally found street furniture and urban hazards. Unsupervised, Parkour is potentially a very dangerous activity.
Age
Parkour is an activity only attempted by teenagers and early twenty year olds. Because of the potential phisical dangers, children should be prevented from attempting Parkour as a pastime unsupervised.
Ability
Athletic and gymnastic abilities are necessary as well as courage and self confidence, before attempting the extreme pastime of Parkour.
Description
Parkour is similar to Free-running using buildings, walls and street furniture (pillar boxes, lamp-standards etc) as equipment and aid to fast passage. Parkour focuses on uninterupted, effeint forward motion over, under, around and through obsticles (both man made and natural). The goal of Parkour is to adapt ones movement to any given obsticle. Inspiration and popularity of Parkour has developed from television and video adventures using these techniques.
