Popularity

Location
In 1994, sledge hockey was introduced as a demonstration sport at the 1994 Winter Paralympics in Lillehammer, Norway. The sport became a full medal event at the 1998 Winter Paralympics in Nagano, Japan.
Description
Players sit on double-bladed sledges and use sticks, similar to regular ice hockey; each stick has a blade at one end and small picks at the other. Players use the sticks to pass, and shoot the puck, and the pick end to propel and maneuver their sledges, using the metal picks (teeth) to grip the ice and push one forward. The rules are very similar to ice hockey rules. The picks cannot be over pointy or protrude farther than 1cm beyond the stick,to prevent damageing the ice or other players.
