The roller coaster is a popular fun park entertainment, designed to thrill. A coaster ride is a specially designed railroad track that rises and falls in specially designed patterns, with loops, turns and twists that briefly turn the rider upside down

Popularity
Although roller coasters are designed to thrill and excite the passengers testing their nerves to the extreme, they are very safe, being rigorously and regularly tested. The most dangerous part of the ride statistically is travelling to the venue.

Location
Roller coasters are found across the world in fun parks fair grounds and theme parks, the larger, longer rides are normally found in theme parks that attract a wider audience.

Age
The more adventurous roller coaster rides often have age or minimum height restrictions on passengers, However there are many rides designed specifically for children, most parks having a restrictive ride, will have a children's version as well.

Ability
No special ability is necessary to ride a roller coaster, although being a little crazy might help.

Description
Passengers sit in a car designed for two, four or six passengers to travel round the circuit, when cars are hooked together they are called a train, some roller coasters run with single cars these are called wild mouse rides. Not all thrill rides that run on tracks are roller coaster rides. Cars are taken to a high point of the track and released to travel the track under the momentum created by gravity. Some of the worlds most adventurous rides reach heights approaching 500 feet.

Dedication
For the vast majority, roller coaster riding is an activity to be enjoyed while visiting a fun park. However this activity can be infectious, giving you a thirst for ever more thrilling rides, for these dedicated riders there are roller coaster clubs, who write reports on all new rides as well as organising trips for crazy like minded riders. They also popularise roller coaster ridding encouraging theme park operators to create ever more imaginative and daring rides.

Potential
For dedicated riders every new ride opened must be ridden, Some travelling the world to ride a roller coaster with a new or bigger thrill.

Cost
These are commercially run rides, ride costs can vary from £1 for a simple child's ride to £5 or Even £10 for the most adventuress ride, plus an entrance fee to the actual park.
