Description
Wheelchair racing become a very popular and recognised sport in 1989, when wheelchair bound individuals decided that they wanted to be able to race too, there are many different races organised throughout the UK and all over the world. Using a specially designed wheelchair made of 3 wheels similar to that of a go cart one wheel protruding out in front while the other two wheels are very close to the contender, the wheels being at an angle to give a more streamlined performance.
Dedication
The athletes require good upper body strength as it is the arms and the back that do the work, this requires dedication to train and to get used to the different action of that of a conventional wheelchair.
Potential
Potential to make lots of new friends and enjoy a sport that is really uplifting and fulfilling, compete in competitions for prizes and trophies.
Cost
Costs to consider are sportswear and equipment though some clubs may be happy to provide these as part of the membership costs. Check for terms and up to date prices.
