The W.I. Women's Institute is an organisation set up by women to tackle issues in the community.
Popularity
This is sometimes thought of as an older woman's interest but with some 215,000+ members throughout the UK, Wales and Ireland it is proof it appeals to women of all ages.
Location
Groups meet locally from private homes, village halls and with seminars and presentation tacking place in larger venues.

Description
The Women's Institute first began in 1915 with a strong emphasis on helping to educate other women and pass on new skills, opening new horizons and helping them to integrate into the community. W.I's were originally in rural areas but are now wherever is needed. Today the W.I will take on larger issues such as Fair-trade, Farming Issues, Children's concerns and campaigning against such this as human trafficking and big campaigners for women against violence.
Dedication
You do not have to become a full time member the W.I. understands that with the way life takes us and how fast it is moving that people can't dedicate time to a regular meeting and become and associate member helping out as and when time allows.

Cost
Membership in 2006 is £22 per year for a local membership or become an associate member receiving the W.I. magazine for £50.00 per year.
