Biathlon is a winter combined snow sport for both men and women, combining cross country skiing and rifle shooting. Biathlon tests a competitors strength, endurance, tactical knowledge and ski technique. See also Snow Sports 120
Description
Men and women are separated in competition, there are both individual and team competitions. Competitors start at intervals and must propel themselves by no other means than skis and sticks, and must carry their rifle and ammunition from the start. Races are run over 20km for men and 15km for women. Four bouts of shooting take place at set spaces during the race, two of the shoots are in the prone position and two standing. Team events comprise of four Biathletes who ski in serried formation.
