Description
Originated in Australia. SLS GB was formed in 1955 by 3 Clubs based at Bude, St Agnes & Brighton. We train hundreds of lifeguards each year and over 20,000 rescues have been effected by our members. Today we work closely with other bodies such as the RNLI to achieve our mission 'to provide a safe and enjoyable environment on beaches'.
Dedication
The level of commitment required is up to the individual. Traditionally Clubs meet regularly during the season (May to September), but many now meet all year round, training in swimming pools in the winter. Competitions are held all year round starting with Stillwater in Spring, Open Water in Summer and the IRB Championships the last of the year in October.
Potential
Members can become Beach Lifeguards, helping to save lives. In competition, members can help their Club to win the Super Club Trophy and can go on as an individual to represent Great Britain at International events.
