Yodeling (yodelling, jodeling) is a very distinctive type of solo singing in which there are abrupt changes back and forth between normal voice and falsetto. Common in Swiss and Austrian folk songs, and also American country and western singing.
Popularity
Proberly the best known example of yoldelling of recent times is in the musical, The Sound of Music, by Rodgers and Hammerstein, which contains a yodelling song, The Lonely Goatherd.
Description
Said to have originated as method of voice comummuication over long distances in mountainess regeons of the world. There are not any clubs dedicated to yodeling, nor is it a type of singing that can be sung along with, it is a speciality act Now mainly performed by solo artists of either sex, as an entertainment for others.
