Sand Sculpture evolves from the simple sand castle, built by almost every child, into an art form of breathtaking, imagination, innovation and skill. Sand offers the potential to equal or surpass carving and sculptures in any other medium.
Popularity
Sand sculpting in its simplest of forms, is a popular worldwide fun activity by children of all ages.
As an art, there are now exhibitions and competitions of sand sculpture, open to sculptors of the highest ability, held all over the world.
Location
Sand Sculptures can be created any where, there is a supply of suitable wet compressible sand, be it in the back garden sand pit, the sandy beach or at a purposely commissioned exhibition venue.
Age
This creative and imaginative art form is enjoyed by all and any age group.
Description
Using wet compactable sand, build a rough mound, to a little larger size than your over all finished expectation, tamp well. Your rough structure is now ready for carving, start from the top, work down, and always carve outward to retain structural integrity. Remove equal amounts of sand from all sides of the sculpture; do not attempt to complete one side at a time.
Only you will know when the sculpture is finished. When done, stand back and admire.
