Traditional Youth Marching bands, march a British military style of drill. Banding is an exciting musical educational experience for any person aged between eight and twenty-five years. Lifelong friendships are formed and important values learnt.
Popularity
TYMBA marching bands are found throughout the country and are most often associated with other youth organisations such as Scouts and Guides, Boys and Girls Brigades, Cadet corps and Boys clubs.
Location
Although music and basic marching can be learnt indoors, routines have to be learnt and marched outside. The competition season is between May and October although exhibition and ceremonial marches can be held throughout the year.
Age
Children usually begin at the age of six (there is no minimum age limit specified). Members are able to keep learning into their early adult years. Once a member finishes marching they often go on to instruct at their Corps or another.
Ability
No qualifications are required. A marching band is able to cater for all ability levels of performances, from the most experienced to complete beginner.
Description
On completion of a season a band will usually begin learning their program for their next competitive season. The competitive season runs from late May through to the beginning of October with a months break in August. Corps decide their own rehearsal schedule, most rehearse at weekends and one week night in the week, depending on the age of the membership.

Potential
The season finishes with a spectacular Final National Championships Event which takes place at the beginning of October where all units perform to a enthusiastic crowd.

Cost
Most units charge a membership fee of between two and three pounds per week. Included in this price is the lend of an instrument or equipment to practice on and full musical tuition on their chosen instrument. For each contest their is usually a fee of approximately £5 required to cover travel costs.
