What is Drag Racing all about, we hear you ask? Well, Straight lining is about rubber burning, adrenalin pumping 1/4 mile motorcycle racing! Just you, your machine and your reactions against your opponents over 1/4 of a mile of hard tarmac.
Popularity
Drag Racing bikes or straight lining as it is also called has a tremendous following in participants and spectators alike. It is mostly a family affair with the addicts as well as a good meeting for mates and competition. An excellent social event.
Location
There are tracks and strips all over the UK as well as professional locations like Santa Pod and the Isle of Man.
Age
Many bikers get the bug at an early age and takes them through to old age. Its a sport and hobby for all age groups male or female.
Ability
What you need for drag racing and sprinting: Equipment: Bike (just about anything really) Helmet (ACU approved / gold sticker) Racing Leathers (1 piece is best) with armour, Gloves & Boots Entry fee per race meeting (from ?18)
Description
Compared to other types of motorcycle road racing, its very easy to get started in drag racing or sprint racing because many UK drag strips and sprint courses operate a 'Run What Ya Brung' (RWYB) session. These RWYB sessions provide an ideal starting point because they let 'ordinary' people like you and me take our own 'ordinary' bikes onto the strip and let rip. Starting from as little as ?18 for the day, you can get your bike on the strip and go racing head to head against your mates.
Dedication
The bikes used in drag racing and sprinting can vary tremendously, from ordinary sports and classic bikes, through to purpose-built dragsters with supercharged V8 engines. Yikes! Most bikers are dedicated lifers and if you join the ranks you will find the same bug that bites them all. Bikes no matter what shape size race prepared or trim they come in it is a labour of love with rider and machine to obtain the ultimate thrill, that being legalised speed and handling.
Potential
The potential is to become recognised, many of our sporting hero's in this class have gone through these ranks or been associated with them. It can be a fun personal activity leading into a team situation.

Cost
There are no figures that one can put on this as the variables are so vast on machines, parts, and accessories. Insurance is another factor and if your going to a meeting with a road bike to have a blast, remember your normal road insurance does not cover you in race mode.
