Glass Engraving is a very versatile and exciting craft, involving transforming you pattern, picture or name onto a glass object.

Popularity
Hugely popular with classes, clubs and competitions throughout the UK, many people take this up as a form of employment being paid for a craft they enjoy.

Location
All over the UK there are special factories offering demonstrations, you can join a club or course and then you can complete projects at home.

Age
From a young age as and when children show an interest, though children must be supervised, there is no upper age limit.

Ability
Anyone can start glass engraving simply by booking a course, information available on the National Glass Centre Website.

Description
Glass engraving is the art of creating pictures, patterns and lettering on glass, many projects can be undertaken from small wine glasses, glass plaques, plates, bowls right up to huge glass panes. There are many different types of glass engraving from Diamond Point to Sand Blasting, it is best to find a local course near to you to discover which form of engraving you would like to learn. There are many fine examples of projects through out the UK in Museums and Stately Homes.

Dedication
This is an intricate and delicate craft so 100% dedication is required to learn this rewarding and fulfilling craft.

Potential
Sunderland University is one of few universities in the UK providing such education at BA, MA and PhD levels. This can enter you into the world professional and employed glass engraving.
