Dog Sledging is a fast, furious and fun sport to participate in, a minimum of 2 dogs pull a sledge which is controlled by a driver.

Popularity
This sport has become so popular that in the U.K. where we have little snow, the sledges have been equipped with wheels, so that people can compete cross country without the snow.

Location
One of the famous U.K. venues is Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands, though events do take place throughout the U.K.

Age
Young children are encouraged to join in the fun from junior age and their is no upper age limit, though this is a fun sport for all of the family from caring for the dogs to racing.

Description
Dog Sledging is a highly popular sport traditionally Husky dogs are used though breeders are now producing Hybrids such as Husky/Pointer Crosses. Any medium sized who finds playing and pulling fun though can participate. Usually pups from 3-4 months will be trained in a small harness pulling a very light weight to get them used to the feel, once they reach maturity approx 18 months they can learn to pull a full sled and race, dogs race over the U.K. and internationally.

Dedication
Dog sledders, main premise is on the care for their dogs, they love their dogs and care for their welfare, maintaining health, fitness and special dietary requirements, there is a lot to learn for the general care. There is also a lot to learn for the training, rearing and training your dogs, so they perform appropriately and safely, though Sledders put an emphasis of fun into this for the dogs and themselves.

Potential
Potential to have a lot of fun, Dog Sledding is a very social sport, potential to travel all over the world competing Internationally as well as the U.K. races.

Costs to consider are that of your dog average price ?400 though this can rise dramatically, Pets insurance from ?23 per month per dog, vets fees consultation ?15 inoculation average ?30 costs can rise dramatically for health or injury problems. Other costs to consider are the sledge and travel and accommodation costs.
