Beer mats are cardboard coasters found in public houses, normally with a beer or spirit advertisement on it. A true beer mat collector (tegestologist) will always take a drink with every beer mat collected, making this an extremely popular hobby.

Popularity
collecting beer mats is popular across the whole country, and for some unexplained reason is most popular in areas that are in close proximity of a college or university.

Age
The minimum age of successfully collecting beer mats is restricted by the minimum age allowed into a public house.

Ability
The only necessary ability to this activity is the ability to stand on your feet at the end of a hard nights collecting.

Description
Beer mats as with most advertisements, tend to be brightly colored or eye catching. they are easily collected and cheap (free). Subjects covered are beer, spirit and in past times tobacco, along with sporting occasions and even government announcements. Beer mat collections are often found as a colourful adornment on the walls of students otherwise dowdy flat or bed sit, memories of social occasions past.

Dedication
Some people become totally dedicated to this hobby, going out to a public house in the foulest of winter weather, and then forcing a beer down their throat purely so that they can claim a much needed beermat for their collection.

Potential
As with all collections, the better your collection the more you desire that one elusive mat. unlike other collections there is no great value to beer mats a penny or two for common mats to a pound or so for an old rarity.
