Mallakhamb is a traditional Indian gymnastic sport in which poses and feats are performed by a gymnast while hanging from a vertical wooden pole or rope. Mallakhamb originated as a training method for Indian `Kushti` wrestlers.
Popularity
The ancient Indian sport Mallakhamb can be traced back to the 12th century. Originally Mallakhamb was predominately concerned with Kushti, and the learning of different Kushti styles. The modern sport includes far more gymnastics.

The word "Mallakhamb" comes from malla, which means gymnast or a man of strength, and khamb, which is a pole.

From twelve years of age.
Ability
Mallakhamb needs concentration, speed and flexibility. It is the only game which is played against gravity.
Description
It is claimed that this sport provides optimum exercise to the entire body in the minimum time. Due to contineous twisting and turning, the whole body gets massaged cells are rejuvenated, muscles are developed and internal systems benifited.
