Makruk also known as Thai or Siamese Chess.
Description
There are four move differances between Maruk and western chess.
Unlike Western Chess, the pawns start on the third row, and can only ever move one square per move.
The Queen moves only one space diagonally. This is the move of queen’s common in most forms of ancient forms chess.
The Bishop moves one space diagonally (forwards or backwards) or one space forward (not backwards).
The Knight moves two spaces forward or backwards, to the right or left, plus one space at a right angle.
Dedication
The pawns in older traditional Thai chess sets used cowry shells as pawns, which come naturally in lighter and darker varieties. When they are promoted, they are flipped over to show their open underside.
