Stand up Paddle Surfing has Polynesian roots, and is a surface water sport, which is a variant of surfing in which the surfer uses a paddle to move through the water while standing on a surfboard.
Location
One difference between the tradional idea of surfing and Stand Up Surfing is that the latter does not need a wave. In Stand Up Surfing, you can paddle on the open ocean, in harbors, on lakes, rivers or any large body of water.
Age
There are no age restrictions in Stand Up Surfing, although in practise children do not start before they are around eight or ten years old, and are proficient swimmers.
Ability
Stand Up Paddle Surfing isn't that hard to learn as unlike normal surfing you can learn to do it on almost any body of water. Newcomers will find standing up on the board and paddling will be the trickiest part, riding the wave will come naturaly.
Description
To catch a wave in Stand Up Surfing, one chooses a wave and begins paddling. As the wave picks up the surfer now acts similar to a convential surfer except for the use of a paddle, although waves may be caught smaller while farther out. While on the wave the paddle can be used for leverage in turns or to gain speed down the wave face. Traditional surfers will find the wave riding part pretty familiar, except that you will be riding for longer and more often.
Dedication
This can be just a fun weekend course, something that you try on holiday maybe book for a hen or stag weekend. Many people take this up as a regular sport to the ability of being to ride the most spectacular waves, making it look seamless and effortless though this does require a lot of knowledge and strategy to reach such levels.
