Underwater Orienteering is a sport undertaken in a swimming pool or more commonly, in a lake, with low or zero visability.
Age
There is no age restriction in Under Water Orienteering, although individual contestants or teams, in common with other competitive sports are separated by age and experiance.
Ability
The ability to dive competently is essential before attempting to play, however Under Water Orienteering is a great way to improve your diving experiance and technique.
Description
A swimmer useing modified scuba gear, navigates by use of a compass, a course underwater at a depth of 1 to 3 m. Competitions are held in lakes or pools, with visability sometimes reaching 0 feet. A bouy with a 3m rope is carried to mark the participants progress. The competitor must take the instructions with them under the water, written down on their forearm or attached to their compass, they are not allowed to orient themselves from the surface.
Dedication
Competions are held for individuals, and teams of two or four competitors.
Potential
World championships are held every two years with continental championships in the off year.
