Trick Water Skiing is best described as gymnastics on water skis. A competitive water based sport performed by both men and women.

Popularity
Water skiing is an activity popular in many countries around the world where appropriate conditions exist - an expanse of water unaffected by to much wave motion. Slalom needs much flatter water conditions than straight line water skiing.

There is no minimum age for this activity, but as trick skiing is a progression of water skiing, the age in which people take it up is older than basic water skiing. Rarely do youngsters compete in competitions under the age of twelve years.

Ability
Slalom is a quite natral progression within the sport of water skiing for a skier wanting to progress his or her skills from just recreational water skiing in straight lines.

Description
Trick skiing is performed using one or two very short finless skis rather than the conventional gear. In it, skiers try to perform tricks somewhat similar to those of gymnasts while being pulled along by the boat. In competitions skiers usually have two, twenty second passes in which they attempt to perform as many tricks as they can. Trick skiing is judged by a number of judges that watch the skier from on the shore.

Dedication
Points are awarded for each successful trick according to the difficulty rating of the individual tricks performed, and the accuracy of execution. The winner of the competition is the person who accumulates the largest number of points.

Several new sports have been invented that involve being towed behind a boat. They include wakeboarding 630, kneeboarding, wakeskating, Bare foot skiing and hydrofoiling.

Cost
Membership of a club costs from between £100 /£200 per year. Most, if not all, clubs offer coaching and tuition for those who want to progress after their first lesson. An hour of expert tuition will cost around £15 and for this you get initial instruction and time on the water with a qualified instructor.
