Also called pipe organ. a musical instrument consisting of one or more sets of pipes sounded by means of compressed air, played by means of one or more keyboards, and capable of producing a wide range of musical effects.

Popularity
The above description is the original concept, however the function and concept of an organ has always been very popular and gone through many changes over the years maintaining its popularity.

Location
An organ can be found most anywhere these days from the old wind powerd reed organ in church's to the latest sophisticated electronic versions used in pop culture, and the old Barrel or street organ which is rare these days.

Age
Most successful musicians start at a very early age so age is immaterial for the budding organist.

Ability
Depending on what type of organ you are using depends on what skills are needed. For a pipe organ one would not only need to know how to play keyboard and understand music, would need to know and understand the instrument as they vary so much.

Description
The organ is a keyboard instrument with one or more manuals, and usually a pedal board. In contrast to most other keyboard instruments, the organ's sound output is produced by wind and therefore continuous and constant for as long as a key is depressed. Unlike the piano or clavichord, the volume of the sound does not depend on how hard the key is struck, though some modern instruments are touch-sensitive. The organ is one of the oldest musical instruments in the Western musical tradition.

Dedication
There is such a variation of organs around from church, theatre, concert and electronic. They are not the easiest instrument in the world but one of the most rewarding if you are dedicated to learning it properly. C0-ordination is a prime requisite as it is not only stops and stoppers that have to be changed but you are also playing with your legs on a lower or bass keyboard.

Potential
This has the potential to be able to play on some of the grandest organs built. Or perform around with groups if you choose the electronic version (portable).

Closely Related Activities
The organ has been an integral part of music throughout the years and is associated in many activities throughout the entertainment field.

Cost
Cost is dependant on what you buy from a few hundred pounds for a small electronic keyboard to a couple of thousand. As for pipe organs these are generally hired out or belong to the place in which they are to be played.
