A brass band is a musical group consisting mostly or entirely of brass instruments, often with a percussion section. In some traditions an ensemble including woodwind instruments would be termed a brass band.
Popularity
This is vastly enjoyed by spectators from all walks of life. Its popularity was brought into being in the early 19th century particularly among coal miners and the steel industry.
Location
Where there is a town or a club you will normally find a brass band which is very evident when you follow carnival processions around the UK, or field events at local fairs and shows.
Age
Brass bands are typically associated with mature people but there is a growing trend of younger members with many schools and colleges having their own band.
Ability
It is desirable to have had a formal education on the instrument of your choice and instruction and practice of playing in a band. C0-ordination is a requsite for formation work whilst marching.
Description
A Brass Band in the British tradition with a full compliment of players generally comprises 8-10 cornets (including 1 soprano), 1 fluge lhorn, 3 tenor horns, 2 baritones, 2 euphoniums, 3 trombones (2 tenors and 1 bass), 4 tubas (2 Eb and 2 Bb) and percussion. There is a long tradition of competition between brass bands, often based around local industry and communities. The term silver band is synonymous with brass band incorporating musicians playing both lacquered and silver-plated instruments
Dedication
Dedication is a requisite through team work, which is a necessity when most displays of public performance are done whilst marching or as in filed events formation work.

Performing at Carnival processions, field and country show events, competitions are all potentials of this hobby.
