Gladiators was a T.V show run in the UK, though America already had their programme running, the game is based on the strength of the Ancient Roman Gladiators and is a test of strength and courage, similar games are played throughout the UK.
Popularity
There was a huge Saturday night following of the show on ITV between October 10th 1992 - 1St January 2000.
Location
The show was filmed by LWT (London Weekend Television) at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. Several smaller similar games have been produced and are available at fetes etc. Repeat viewing is available on Challenge and cable shows.
Age
The minimum age for competitors on the show was 18 years of age.
Ability
High level of physical health and fitness as this is a very demanding game.
Description
The idea of the game was that members of the public applied to compete in different activities against professionally trained athletes who worked as the resident gladiators, contestants would compete against others to achieve maximum points until only two contestants were left, the remaining two would compete over an assault course the winner would then work through to a place in the final. With America and Australia having their own teams, there was also an international competition.
Dedication
The Gladiators themselves were some of the UK's finest athletes, for strength, stamina and strategy, so a rigorous fitness regime and training was a must to be in with a hope of of defeating the Gladiators.
Potential
The potential was to become the winning contender as well as receive professional training, there was also a prize fund.
