Cross country running is a winter sport for individuals and teams who compete over courses through the countryside, the first individual home is the winner, team performances are judged on aggregate placings. Cross country is raced by male and female

Popularity
There are 1400 UK Athletic clubs, so the popularity of Athletics is high. Most schools include cross country in their sports curriculum, children are introduced to at an early age, around eleven years .

Location
Cross country is run all over the UK runners can run practically anywhere it is legal to do so. The UK Athletics Association can put you in touch with a local club

Age
From around the age of eleven years upwards. In the veterans classes runners in their sixties and even seventies regularly compete.

Ability
Cross country running can be for fun, to get fit or as a serious compeditive sport. All abilities are catered for.

Description
The Young Athletes League caters for eleven to sixteen year olds. for 17-22 year olds there is Athletics 17-22 which give athletes a chance to say how the sport is run

Dedication
For the truly dedicated athletes the rewards are the best. Did you know that Paula Radcliffe won the World Junior Cross Country title in 1992. It goes to show that hard work can bring forth fantastic results. If you're not that dedicated, at least you can get fit on the way.
