The Field Gun Run was originally an activity performed by the Royal Navy from 1907-1999 as part of the Royal Tournament, with the demise of the Royal Tournament it has now become a popular activity within the forces and some schools.

Originally taken place in Portsmouth, Devonport and Fleet, with teams from other areas of through out the UK.

Description
Filed Gun run was originally brought around for just that reason, guns were transported to an area usually by train and then Naval crew physically transporting the gun over rough terrain. The first gun run was in the 2nd Boer War in South Africa with the British Garrison in Ladysmith in 1899 under seige, guns were brought by sea taken across rough terrain and used against the Boers. There is a 2nd part to the competition and that is the run home, taking all the equipment back again.

The field gun run was traditionally only performed by the Royal Navy, however it is being kept alive by the forces and some schools performing displays at public events.
