Square Dancing is a dance that originates from Folk Dancing and is made up of four couples each creating a side of the square, Square Dancing as it is today originated in the U.S.A.

Popularity
Square Dancing is very popular and, the U.K. has it's own square dance association and they compete throughout Europe.

Square Dance Clubs, Barn Dances, Fete's and many more.

Age
Many young children learn square dancing as part of their country dancing at school, there is no upper age limit the dance can be enjoyed by all of the family.

Description
Square Dancing is usually associated with the Wild Western Dancing Yeah Ha, elements from Folk Dancing Europeans who migrated into the U.S.A. The emphasis for square dancing is that of fun and socialising, it is also a very good source for fitness with the low impact but fast moving moves. Often the music used is Country and Western though many modern clubs will use all styles of music. There is a caller who will call out the moves to the music.

Dedication
Classes take place usually one a week and it is possible to join a team and enter into competitions, there is really no special dress requirement though some people do like to dress up as part of the fun in either country and western style clothing or traditional folk costumes.

To make lots of new friends and add a new social angle to your life, while keeping fit and having lots of fun.
