The collection of eggs which have been decorated usually for a special purpose of occasion.

Popularity
Among the most popular types of eggs for collectors are wooden eggs which are painted with acrylic paints or eggs known as Pysanky, highly decorated, which originate from the Ukraine and were traditionally given as gifts at Easter time.

Location
Many eggs can be found in traditional ways such as craft and collectors fairs, car boot sales, jumble sales and antique shops/fairs. Many collectors are not just collectors but produce their own eggs too.

Age
Collectors can be of all ages and you are never too young or old to start a collection.

Ability
There are no specific abilities required for the collection of decorated eggs, just an eye for a beautiful work or art. Care should be taken with eggs which originate from birds eggs due to the potential fagility of these items.

Description
Decorated eggs prove a source of fascination to many and to give a beautifully decorated egg is a centuries old tradition. Faberge is the most well known producer of decorated eggs and these can fetch very large sums of money as only a few were made. Modern eggs are actual hen, duck, goose and ostrich eggs which are carefully preserved and then cut, mounted and decorated by hand to the highest standards. They are generally produced for birthdays, anniversaries and other special events.

Dedication
The best time to find eggs is around Easter time when they are produced especially for the season. They can usually be found at all sorts of locations such as fairs. Storage of the collection is the most important aspect of the hobby, as with delicate or fragile items they can easily become damaged.

Cost
Eggs can be obtained from a few pounds upwards.
